What Does A Life Coach Do?

This is a question lots of people ask. Life coaches are becoming more popular, but what holds a person back from hiring a Life Coach is they aren’t exactly sure what one does.

There are vague kind of descriptions like:

“Life coaches work with their clients to help them achieve goals, overcome obstacles and make changes or shifts in their lives. ... Coaches do not counsel or analyze the past. Life coaching is based on the principle that the client has the intrinsic ability to determine and achieve their goals.” Quote from

“Life coaching is a synergistic relationship between an accredited life coach and a client designed to tap into your full potential. Just as Olympic athletes wouldn’t think of training without the added insight, objective perspective and enthusiastic support of an athletic coach, many of today’s most successful business leaders, professionals, executives, entrepreneurs and CEOs use the services of a life coach to take their lives, careers, or businesses to the next level.” Quote from

“A life coach encourages and counsels clients on a range of professional and personal issues. Life coaching is distinct from giving advice, consulting, counseling, mentoring and administering therapy. You would hire a coach to help you with specific professional projects, personal goals and transitions. A coach helps you to grow by analyzing your current situation, identifying existing and potential challenges and obstacles and devising a custom plan of action designed to help you achieve specific outcomes.” Quote from

Those all sound good, and as a Life Coach myself I understand what they do. But if you are not a life coach yourself and you aren’t exactly sure what a life coach does, then does that really help you know what a life coach does? What exactly does all that mean? In a lot of cases, people explain what a life coach does, by explaining what they don’t do.

I am going to help explain in the shortest way possible exactly what I do as a Life Coach:

“As a Life Coach I help people identify the cause of their problem, (which is always a thought). Then I help them decide if they want to change that thought. Because, when you change your thoughts, you change your results in life.” By Adriana Ellis –
