When Diets Don't Work

Updated: Jul 14, 2018

What do you do when diets just don’t work?

Year after year, season after season, you try diet after diet. But yet you are heavier than ever. Some try to just accept their body the way it is and try to be happy. Some try yet another diet. Telling themselves this is the one that is going to work.

If you haven’t lost weight and kept it off yet… then I hate to be the one to tell you…. Another diet is not going to work. You need to do something else instead. What else can you do, you may ask? Well I’d be happy to tell you. You need to get help!

Maybe you need a dietician or a nutritionist if you just have no idea what you should be eating. They are not going to give you short term ‘diet’ plans. But here may be the problem with a Dietician or Nutritionist They will tell you what you should be eating for good health. Here’s a news flash for you…. I bet some of the diet plans you have tried tell you what healthy food you should be eating too. But are you still eating that way? Chances are, if you are even reading this, then the answer is most likely no, you haven’t kept eating that way. So maybe a dietician or nutritionist isn’t what you need. You already know what good foods you should be eating and what bad foods you shouldn’t be eating, but you just can’t continue eating that way with whatever diet plan. You feel deprived and you miss your old foods, so revert back to eating cheese burgers and fries 3 times per week.

Maybe you need a different type of help. Now don’t go off the deep end when I suggest this now.... Maybe you need Weight Loss Coaching or Counselling? Many of you just freaked out at the word Counselling. “There is nothing wrong with me, I don’t need counselling, I just haven’t found the right diet plan!” Yes, Yes, I hear you. But as Dr. Phil says, “How’s that working for you?” There is nothing wrong with people who seek counselling. These are the people who want help. Counselling is for people who recognize that they are ‘stuck’ and need help creating a plan to get un-stuck. Seeking counselling does not mean that something is wrong with you, it means, that you are serious about making a change in your life for the better.

Counsellors don’t tell you what you should or should not eat. But they do help people move forward in the direction then wish to go. With weight loss, counsellors help clients make a reasonable plan, that can move a person towards weight loss. Not a lose 30 pounds in 30 days plan, but a step by step implementation for long term results.

Weight loss counselling is not simply for people who need to lose weight. It is mostly for people who want to lose weight and are willing to do something about it. It is for people who recognize that diet plans and gimmicks simply do not work, and are not willing to settle to just remain over weight and wait for the next trendy diet plan to come out.
